About Minquiz
Minquiz is a Science and Mathematics quiz hosted every year by Mintek. The quiz is open to Grade 12 learners attending South African schools, and tests their knowledge in Physical Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge in science, engineering and technology. The aim of the quiz is to get learners interested in potential careers in science, engineering and technology. This year the Western Cape provincial leg of the quiz is hosted by the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and will take place on 17 May 2018 at CPUT’s Bellville Campus.
Schools are encouraged to register their team of three learners that will represent them in this fun quiz. The quiz consists of a written section and an oral quiz section; questions in both sections are multiple choice questions. Individual learners write the test, and afterwards the top five schools from the Gold and Platinum categories take part in an oral quiz. All questions are in line with the school curriculum. Prizes are up for grabs at the provincial leg, and the top learners from the province will have the opportunity to compete at the national level. The national competition will take place on 19th – 20th July 2018. Prizes are as follows:
Provincial
Written quiz - Top two learners from the Gold and Platinum categories have the opportunity to compete at the national level.
Oral quiz - In each category, the top three schools receive the following: 1st place – R 1 400; 2nd place – R 850; 3rd place – R 550.
National
Written quiz - Top learners from each category are awarded R 1 000 each.
Oral quiz - In each category, the leaners from the top three provincial teams receive the following: 1st place – R 650; 2nd place – R 450; 3rd place – R 250. The schools represented by the learners receive the following: 1st place – R 3 250; 2nd place – R 2 250; 3rd place – R 1 250.
On the day of Minquiz:
